Welcome to the inaugural Time for Our Power! "Women Bringing Change to the World" Conference, which will be held in Asheville, North Carolina, a small but vibrant city located in the heart of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
The purpose of this 3-day event is to provide a forum for women of all ages, and ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds to gather, learn, grow and become inspired to personally and collectively bring powerful, positive and much needed change to their own lives and to the world.
Our keynote speaker is Academy-award-winning actress, activist and American icon Jane Fonda.
Time for Our Power! will feature speakers, panelists and workshop leaders from a wide variety of fields: environmental, political, international affairs, business, medical, spiritual, personal growth and the arts.
The conference is unusual however in that events won't be held at one location but at different venues around downtown such as the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, the Haywood Park Hotel and Jubilee! Community Church. This will give attendees a chance to stretch their legs as well as enjoy this lively city.
Men are most definitely welcome to attend the conference and their support is always appreciated! In fact, for those of you who are slightly confused by the emerging empowered woman, we are offering a special workshop: "How to Live With a Goddess," taught by two men who wouldn't have it any other way.
One of the important issues we'll be addressing at the conference is the deteriorating health of our enviroment. So that we 'walk our talk' we plan on making the conference as green as possible.
Conference attendees will also get to experience an evening of great entertainment on Saturday, featuring an eclectic mix of music, burlesque, poetry, African drumming and more.
The conference will feature other great stuff as well, including the Red Tent: a construction of beautiful fabrics, carpets, pillows and more, Middle-Eastern in feeling - providing a peaceful place where women can go to recharge. meditate or commune quietly at any time during the conference. An Inner Journey Meditation that utilizes crystal singing bowls and Native American flutes will also be offered periodically throughout the weekend.
Registration is easy. It can either be done online or by printing out a registration form and mailing it to us.
All profits from the conference will go to the Asheville branch of Planned Parenthood; to the local domestic-violence agency and shelter Helpmate; to help fund the first ever Habitat for Humanity house in Madison County to be built entirely by women; and to CARE, a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty with a special focus on working alongside poor women.
We very much want any woman, no matter her financial situation, to be able to attend the conference if she wants to. To make that possible we will be offering a number of partial scholarships as well as volunteer opportunities and a special student rate. For more information, visit our RATES page.
In early May we launched a special Scholarship Campaign to enable women from all socio-economic backgrounds to attend the conference. We believe it is going to take all of us to change the world; we can't do it without each other. We will be working with our nonprofit recipients to identify women in our community who could benefit from and be empowered by attending this conference. Please help us make this possible by contributing to the Scholarship Fund on the Sponsor Registration Form. Thank you!
"In a time of great global change, humanity is still relying on the old myth of survival and domination. We need a new myth, a new vision, a new definition of power and leadership. We must go away from the old model and toward one of creative cooperation on our small and threatened planet. The world needs women to imagine, define, and lead us toward a sane and sustainable culture. A culture of soul. A culture that values life more than war. People more than profits. And hope more than despair."
